Outstanding Science Communicator Award

Nomination Instructions for Texas A&M University Chapter of Sigma Xi Outstanding Science Communicator Award

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Nominations are due Feb. 28, 2020

The A&M Chapter of Sigma Xi accepts nominations of individuals who have demonstrated consistent dedication and superior effectiveness to improving the communication of scientific research to the general public. If a nominee is deemed qualified, the winner will receive a cash award and the opportunity to make a Sigma Xi-sponsored public presentation.

This award is not intended for professors for the performance of their regular classroom teaching duties. Likewise, professors or researchers should not receive this award for communicating science to their peers via scholarly publications. The university provides both teaching and research awards. However, professors or researchers certainly do qualify if they are communicating scientific research to the general public via books, articles, blogs, public presentations, and the like. Nominations of non-university personnel are also acceptable and encouraged.

Nominations should consist of a nomination letter along with up to two independent letters of support that document the nominee’s qualifications for this award. Past nominees are eligible for re-nomination according to these criteria, but this requires re-submission.
