Phillips receives 2009 Walston Chubb Award from Sigma Xi

Timothy D. Phillips, professor of Toxicology in the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences, was recently selected for the 2009 Walston Chubb Award for Innovation sponsored by the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. Sigma Xi presents the Walston Chubb Award for Innovation to honor and promote creativity in science and engineering. The award carries a $4,000 honorarium and an invitation to give the Walston Chubb Award Lecture at Sigma Xi’s annual meeting. Phillips has been recognized nationally and internationally for many years for his research in food safety and food toxicology. He holds three patents describing novel dietary strategies and enterosorbent interventions to treat disease in animals and humans. Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M System have recognized Phillips with several honors, including the 2007 Innovation Award for Research, the 2006 Association of Former Students’ Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award for Research, and a 2005 Bush Award for International Research. Phillips also is a Faculty Senior Fellow of Texas AgriLife Research. Sigma Xi, the international honor society of science and engineering, has nearly 60,000 members who were elected to membership based on their research potential or achievements. More than 500 Sigma Xi chapters in North America and around the world provide a supportive environment for interdisciplinary research at colleges and universities, industry research centers and government laboratories.
